Preparing for an Upper Abdomen Ultrasound in Leicester

For scans of the upper abdomen, including gall bladder, liver, pancreas or aorta, you’ll need to fast for 6 to 8 hours before your appointment. You may take any medication as usual, with just a sip of water. I recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothes to allow good access to your abdomen. Sometimes, changing into a gown provided by the clinic will be needed.

Preparing for Urinary Bladder, KUB or Pelvic Scans

If you're coming for a scan of the urinary bladder, KUB (kidney, ureter and bladder) or pelvis, arrive with a comfortably full bladder. Drink plenty of fluids, such as water, for 1.5 to 2 hours before your ultrasound appointment, and do not visit the toilet in this time. Choose loose clothing as you may be asked to change into a gown at The Health Suite.

Gallbladder Ultrasound Preparation Instructions

For gallbladder ultrasound scans, you’ll get specific instructions when booking. Usually, you should eat a fat-free diet before your scan and fast for at least 6 to 8 hours prior to your appointment. Small sips of water or clear fluid are allowed, as is taking medication with a sip of water. Wear loose clothing, but be prepared to change into a hospital gown if needed.

How to Prepare for a Neck Ultrasound

No special preparation is required for a neck ultrasound scan. I suggest wearing loose-fitting clothes around your neck, making it easier to properly examine both sides. I will ensure your comfort during the appointment and explain everything so you know what to expect during your ultrasound scan.

Preparing for Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (Shoulder, Elbow, Hand, Wrist, Hip, Knee, Ankle & Foot)

No specific preparation is needed for scans of the shoulder, elbow, hand, wrist, hip, knee, ankle or foot. Simply wear loose, comfortable clothing so the area being examined is easily accessible. Occasionally, you may be asked to change into a hospital gown at the clinic for better access to the joints or muscles.

Scrotum Ultrasound Patient Guidance

If you’re having a scrotum scan, you do not need to follow any special ultrasound preparation checklist instructions. For your comfort and privacy, you may need to change into a hospital gown provided at The Health Suite in Leicester. The exam itself will be quick and discreet.

Ultrasound for Lumps and Bumps: What Patients Should Know

No complicated preparation is needed for scans of lumps, bumps or soft tissue. Wear loose clothes so the affected area is easy to access. Depending on the location, you may be given a hospital gown. Remove any jewellery from the area being scanned just before your appointment. My goal is to keep your visit as straightforward and hassle-free as possible.
